1. Norah didn't come home with a monitor and we had that scary day when she stopped breathing. Consider coming home with an apnea monitor.
2. Get RSV vaccination for baby if it's cold/flu season. Judah didn't get the vaccination because insurance wouldn't cover it and he got it at 1 year old. He's been very susceptible to colds ever since.
3. Find a pediatrician that specializes in preemies. I regret not doing this and had to "fight" mine on different issues (developmental timing)
4. Look into hospitals that are closer who have advanced care nurseries who will take the baby and can be closer to you. Norah was transferred out of Children’s Hospital to St. Elizabeth’s once she was on regular oxygen (not pressurized). This made it much easier to learn breastfeeding with her since I was there 2 – 3 feedings per day with her.
5. Social Security benefits for baby click here or call 800-772-1213 This is regardless of income - anyone can get it. Call and see what documents you need and what information. Based on birthweight (below 2 lbs 10 ozs). We got about $700 total in benefits.
